What's included:

healthcare at home - what's included default

You can arrange your health examination from home, without sitting in a waiting room. Everything starts with a simple digital request, and your details are kept private and secure at every step. Once a doctor has issued your blood test request, you visit a collection centre at a time that suits you. There's no rushing to fit an appointment around work or family commitments.

  • Doctor consultation. A telehealth consultation with an Australian-registered doctor who discusses your health, your history and anything you're concerned about.
  • Pathology request. If testing is appropriate, your doctor issues a request you can take to a collection centre near you.
  • Results review. Once your results are back, a doctor reviews them and explains what they mean in plain English.
  • Referrals if required. Should your results point to something that needs further attention, your doctor can arrange specialist referrals where appropriate.

What is a general health check?

A general health check is a review of your overall health, usually built around a set of blood tests. These commonly measure cholesterol, blood sugar, kidney and liver function, and a full blood count, which looks at your red and white blood cells. Your doctor can also arrange a physical examination where needed. Samples are taken at a pathology collection centre using a standard blood draw, and results are sent back to your doctor for review. You'll need a referral from a doctor before pathology tests can be done, which is where our blood test requests service comes in.

Can I arrange a general health check online?

Yes. You can request a health check through InstantScripts without visiting a clinic. One of our Australian-registered doctors reviews your request and, if appropriate, issues a pathology referral. You then have your blood taken at a collection centre near you, and a doctor discusses the results with you afterwards.

What does a general health check include?

A typical check covers cholesterol, blood glucose, kidney function, liver function and a full blood count. Depending on your symptoms and history, a doctor may recommend additional tests, such as a tiredness test or a cholesterol level test, to look more closely at specific concerns.

How much does it cost, and is it covered by Medicare?

InstantScripts consultations are private and not bulk billed, so a fee applies. The pathology tests themselves may attract a Medicare rebate or an out-of-pocket cost depending on the tests requested. You can find current fees on our pricing page before you request anything.

Do I need an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI)?

If you don't have a Medicare card, you can still use InstantScripts with an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). This is a unique number that identifies you within the Australian health system, and anyone living in Australia can apply for one through Services Australia.

How long do results take?

Most routine blood test results are available within two to three business days of your sample being collected, though some tests take longer. A doctor will review your results and contact you to explain what they mean, and can arrange a follow-up telehealth consultation if anything needs further discussion.

Who should get a general health check?

Health checks are worthwhile for most adults, particularly if you haven't had one in the past couple of years, have a family history of conditions like diabetes or heart disease, or have noticed changes in your energy, weight or general wellbeing. A doctor can advise how often testing makes sense for you.
