How online specialist referrals work

Select your referral and submit your request
We offer a range of basic referrals to Dermatologists, Opthalmologists and Gastroenterologists.
2.
A doctor will review your request
Our doctors will review your request and, if deemed clinically appropriate, will issue your referral.
3.
Your referral will be emailed to you
You’ll receive an email with your specialist referral letter which you can then forward to your specialist or print.

A doctor referral to a dermatologist for acne or for a skin/mole check to check for melanoma and other skin cancers.
Ophthalmologist
Ophthalmologist referrals for age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
Gastroenterologist
For patients over 50 years of age with risk factors such as family history or bowel symptoms like rectal bleeding or altered bowel habit.

What's a specialist referral?
A specialist referral is a written request from a doctor to send you to someone with more specific expertise when they feel it's needed. This may be required for Medicare and to book an appointment with a specialist.
What specialist referrals can InstantScripts provide?
InstantScripts can provide specialist referrals to dermatologists (skin), gastroenterologists (gut) and ophthalmologists (eyes) for common conditions.
We can also provide further specialist referrals after telehealth consultation with one of our doctor.
There are some conditions, which may require a physical examination, which we cannot offer referrals for, and you should see your regular doctor.
When will I receive my specialist referral?
Once you have filled out our online form, and a doctor has assessed your request and deemed it clinically appropriate, referrals for common conditions can be sent within minutes.
If you require a doctor consultation, it may take a little longer, up to a few hours but we aim to get to everyone as quickly as possible.
