What's included:

healthcare at home - what's included default

Private, straightforward and on your schedule

There's no waiting room and no need to explain how you're feeling to anyone other than your doctor. Once your consultation is complete, your pathology request is sent to you digitally, so you can visit a collection centre whenever it suits you. Your details stay private throughout, protected by the same digital security standards we apply to every telehealth consultation. Testing for fatigue should reduce your stress, not add to it.

  • A consultation with an Australian-registered doctor, who will talk through your symptoms, your history and what may be behind your tiredness.
  • A pathology request sent digitally, ready to take to a collection centre near you at a time that works for your week.
  • A review of your results with a doctor, explained in plain English so you understand exactly what they mean for your health.
  • Specialist referrals if your results suggest you need further care, arranged by your doctor without another appointment elsewhere.

What is a tiredness test?

A tiredness test is a blood panel that looks for common medical causes of ongoing fatigue. It typically checks your iron levels, thyroid function, vitamin B12 and vitamin D, blood glucose and a full blood count, which measures your red and white blood cells. Low iron and thyroid problems are two of the most frequent culprits behind persistent tiredness. You'll need a doctor's referral for the test, and your blood sample is taken at a pathology collection centre near you.

Can I get a tiredness test online?

Yes. InstantScripts doctors can issue blood test requests online, so you don't need to visit a clinic to get a referral. Complete a short digital questionnaire, and if the test is appropriate for you, a doctor will send the referral to your email. You then take it to a collection centre at a time that suits you.

What does a tiredness test check for?

The panel covers the most common medical causes of fatigue, including iron deficiency, an underactive or overactive thyroid, low vitamin B12 or vitamin D, blood sugar problems and signs of infection or anaemia. If a vitamin deficiency or other issue is found, a doctor can talk you through the next steps.

Is there a test for chronic fatigue syndrome?

There's no single chronic fatigue test. Chronic fatigue syndrome is diagnosed by ruling out other conditions, which is exactly what a tiredness blood panel helps with. If your results come back clear but the fatigue continues, a doctor can discuss further investigations or refer you to a specialist for assessment.

How much does a tiredness test cost?

You pay a fee for the doctor's referral through InstantScripts, listed on our pricing page. The blood test itself is often bulk billed if you have a valid Medicare card, though some collection centres may charge a fee for certain tests. It's worth checking with the centre before your appointment.

Do I need a Medicare card?

You don't need a Medicare card to use InstantScripts, but having one means the pathology test itself is more likely to be bulk billed. If you don't have Medicare, you can still get a referral using your Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI), and the collection centre will let you know the cost of the test upfront.

How long do results take?

Most results are ready within one to three business days, though some tests can take longer. Once your results are in, an InstantScripts doctor can review them with you in a telehealth consultation and explain what they mean in plain English, including whether any treatment or follow-up is needed.

When should I see a doctor about tiredness?

Speak to a doctor if your tiredness has lasted more than two weeks, isn't improving with rest, or comes with other symptoms like unexplained weight change, dizziness or low mood. You can speak with a doctor online 24/7, every day, and get advice without leaving home.
