Fertility testing made simple

Skip the waiting room and the trip to a clinic. With fertility blood tests requested online, you fill in a short questionnaire from home, an Australian-registered doctor reviews your request, and a digital pathology form is sent straight to your inbox. From there, you choose a collection centre that suits your day, whether that's near home, work, or somewhere in between. It's private, straightforward, and built around your schedule.

What's included:

  • A digital pathology request sent to your inbox, ready to take to any participating collection centre at a time that suits you.
  • A results review with a doctor so you understand what your numbers mean and what, if anything, they suggest about your fertility health.
  • Referrals to a specialist or GP for follow-up care if your results show something that needs closer attention.

What is a fertility blood test?

A fertility blood test is a simple pathology test that measures the hormones involved in reproduction. For women, this usually includes follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinising hormone (LH), anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), oestradiol, progesterone, prolactin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). For men, testing often looks at testosterone, FSH, LH, and prolactin. The sample is taken at a pathology collection centre using a standard blood draw, and results are reviewed by your doctor against reference ranges. A request from a doctor is usually needed before pathology can collect your sample, which is where our online pathology requests service comes in.

Can I access fertility blood tests online?

Yes. You can request a consultation with one of our Australian-registered doctors through InstantScripts, and if appropriate, they'll issue a pathology request you can take to your nearest collection centre. The whole process happens from home, with no waiting rooms involved. You can start by booking a telehealth consultation at a time that suits you.

What's checked in a fertility test for women?

A standard fertility test for women usually measures AMH, FSH, LH, oestradiol, progesterone, prolactin, and TSH. Depending on your history, your doctor may also recommend additional tests, such as iron studies or vitamin D. The women's fertility blood test page sets out what's typically included.

How much does it cost, and is it covered by Medicare?

Some fertility blood tests are covered by Medicare when ordered for a clinically relevant reason, while others (such as AMH in many cases) are not. Costs vary by pathology provider. Full consultation pricing is on our pricing page.

Do I need a Medicare card or IHI?

You'll need a Medicare card or Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) to access bulk-billed pathology items. If you don't have one, you can still be tested, but private fees will apply at the collection centre.

How long do results take?

Most fertility hormone results are back within two to five business days. Your doctor will contact you to talk through what they mean and what, if anything, to do next.

Can men get fertility testing too?

Yes. Men's fertility blood tests look at testosterone, FSH, LH, and prolactin, and your doctor may also suggest a semen analysis through a separate pathology service. Visit our men's health page to learn more.
